Management Dynamics and Horizon Services Group Partner to Deliver Auto Rating to CSX Lines

Solution Streamlines CSX Lines' Process of Freighting Bills and Bookings

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ, December 9, 2002, Management Dynamics, Inc., a leader in tariff and contract management systems for the ocean transportation industry, today announced that it has partnered with Horizon Services Group, a subsidiary of CSX Lines that provides innovative technology solutions to logistics companies, to successfully implement auto rating for CSX Lines. CSX Lines' auto rating capability integrates rate and tariff information into the company's liner management system using Management Dynamics' contract management solution, Rate Explorer. Implementation of auto rating has enabled CSX Lines to improve its accuracy in freighting bills and bookings and significantly improve back office productivity.

John Keenan, vice president of sales and marketing for CSX Lines, said, "CSX Lines evaluated all the options we had for tariff and contract management systems a year ago, and we made the decision to switch to Management Dynamics' Rate Explorer because of its advanced functionality." He continued, "Rate Explorer's auto rating functionality produces higher quality bills-of-lading for CSX Lines' customers, and it gives us the productivity and throughput we need to respond to the new port security guidelines that are coming into effect."

Rate Explorer's auto rating feature offers seamless integration between the rate and tariff information maintained in Rate Explorer and a carrier's liner management system. Auto rating enhances productivity, speeds up bill processing, significantly reduces the potential for human error by eliminating manual steps in the invoicing process, and improves cash flow. In addition, auto rating provides for time-sensitive completion of carrier manifests by enabling users to more quickly and accurately rate bill-of-ladings.

John Preuninger, president and chief operating officer of Management Dynamics, said, "CSX Lines is a technologically-advanced line that has been using Rate Explorer for over a year now to manage their service contracts and improve their cash flow. We are extremely excited by their implementation of auto rating with Rate Explorer and believe that this will cut their overall cycle time and better position CSX Lines to meet aggressive, new customs filing regulations."

Rick Kessler, vice president and chief operating officer of Horizon Services Group, said, "By combining the capabilities of Horizon's back office product, which handles everything from taking bookings to producing bills to sending the information to collections, with Rate Explorer, we have provided CSX Lines with an extremely sophisticated - yet easy to use - system to streamline its process of getting rates onto bills and getting bills out to customers. Implementing auto rating with Rate Explorer was a simple project with a large payback."

Management Dynamic's flagship product, Rate Explorer, is a function-rich, web-based solution that enables ocean carriers, global shippers, and transportation intermediaries to manage service contracts in a calculable format. Designed to improve contract management, Rate Explorer provides customers with superior rating productivity, accuracy, and business intelligence. The complete solution equips customers to more accurately and efficiently manage service contracts, eliminate rating errors and improve productivity by calculating freight charges, maintaining rate histories, and auto rating bookings and bills-of-lading.
