Opening Address Speaker announced for BIFA National Conference 2006
|
The British International Freight Association (BIFA) is pleased to announce that Derek Twigg, Parliamentary under Secretary of State for Transport, is to present the Opening Address at BIFA’s National Conference - a one day event taking place at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall, London on Wednesday 24 May 2006.
The theme of the conference is 'Freight Intermediaries Changing Priorities for Forwarding & Logistics' - a topic currently very high on the freight industry's agenda, particularly now as the political response to terrorist activity has produced the concept of a secure supply chain and the modernisation of Customs processes.
Speakers helping to deliver this subject include high-level representatives from HM Revenue and Customs, the European Commission, The Home Office and CLECAT. Presentations will focus on specific issues such as Security and Harmonisation, Supply Chain Security, Frontier Controls and Working Together in Europe. Speaker panel debates, including questions from the floor, will follow the main presentations.
The Conference is sponsored by a number of companies, giving various sectors of the freight industry the opportunity to be involved with the event. Lead sponsors include Management Dynamics Inc, and Barclays Bank Plc.
BIFA’s Director General Colin Beaumont said: “We are delighted that Derek Twigg will launch the Association's Conference this year. We believe that the Department for Transport's presence at our Conference is key in setting the scene for the complex issue of security, which has become such a top priority for governments and businesses."
